5 Tips for Dewy Makeup this Fall/Winter

Summer is officially gone but that doesn’t mean your glowing skin has to be. Cooler weather often means dryer skin but it doesn’t have to mean you can’t have that glow this season. Let’s talk all of the best #glowtips for that glowy makeup this fall and winter.

Tip 1: Start with skin

Good makeup starts with good skin care. Makeup is a fun tool we can use to enhance our features, but think of it this way— if you painted over a damaged wall, the paint wouldn’t make everything appear smooth. Makeup is the same way. Glowing makeup starts with a good skin routine. There are a few things you can add to your routine in order to achieve the best look. The first is to ensure you are exfoliating properly. Our skin craves turnover when it’s dry so exfoliating will make sure it’s smooth and bright. This exfoliant is the best when it comes to glowing skin.

Next you’ll want to make sure you are moisturizing properly. In addition to turnover, the skin craves moisture in cooler and dryer months. Using a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid (like this one) overnight will help the skin recover overnight.

One of my favorite tips. For years women have been using this ancient beauty secret: vasoline. Petroleum locks in moisture but it can also prohibit the skin from breathing so of course you know I found a #TGAapproved dupe. This cream is full of incredible ingredients that lock in moisture. Put this on your skin after moisturizing and you will wake up so hydrated and glowy. Bonus? You can use this on all dry areas (cuticles, elbows, etc) AND you can find it on Amazon. Tip 2: Continuously hydrate with a humidifier

One of my best tips as a desert dweller is to use a humidifier overnight. This will keep your skin hydrated while you sleep. I LOVE using this during a self care session on the skin during a skin care routine. It feels like you are in a spa. This one is affordable and a fave in my household.

Tip 3: Glowy products

When it comes to makeup products, especially in the winter, you want to choose products that add radiance, glow or hydration. This is what will illuminate the skin. Examples are a hydrating primer, a foundation with hyaluronic acid or a BB cream that is dewy. You get it. Matte makeup will give you that mattified look, which there is a time and place for, but if you want glowy makeup— go for glowy products. A dewy base makes for a glowy look.

Tip 4: Opt for cream based products

Hydrated and glowy skin is enhanced by cream products. Cream won’t settle into the skin the same way that powders will. Often, cream products also have skin enhancing benefits. One of my favorite ways to look glowy is to add a cream blush. Giving your skin that flushed look from a hint of color with a blush that has ingredients like squalane (like this one) will keep the skin hydrated and has benefits that will not only hydrate the skin immediately, but make it. better over time.

Tip 5: Highlight properly

The last tip is to strategically place highlighter. You’ll want to place highlighter where the sun hits. This means the top of your cheek bones, on top of your nose as well as on the tip of the nose and the cupids bow. One of my favorite tricks is to add some powdered highlighter into your favorite rose water spray for an all over glow.
